HS Centrifugal Seal With Larger Diameter Expeller

Slurry pump expeller is a dynamic component in centrifugal seal slurry pumps which has vanes to reduce the shaft pressure at the shaft seal area.

The principle of expeller seal is that the total pressure produced by the pump out vanes and the expeller is greater than the pressure generated by the impeller main vanes plus the inlet pressure.

The conventional style expeller seal had been successfully used for about 50 years, but it is unreliable if the suction head exceed 10% of the discharge head, so Worman completed an improved centrifugal seal with larger diameter expeller, known as the High Seal (type HS).

The larger diameter expeller is able to produce higher pressure, thereby type HS seal is able to handle higher inlet pressure that means that centrifugal seal can be used in a wider rang of applications.

For example, the 12/10 AH pump with an HS seal can handle inlet pressures up to 170 kPa higher than with a conventional style expeller seal.

Type HS seals are available for most Worman pumps, but should always be used with impeller back vanes, because the expeller by itself is not able to counter high internal pump pressures. The standard HS expeller and expeller ring material is high chrome for metal and rubber lined pumps, natural rubber lined HS expeller  and expeller rings are also available.

Type HS seals also use the larger diameter sealing area, so the conventional drive side liners can not be used, such as, frame plate liner insert and frame plate liner, back liner and etc., and a new stuffing box was designed to ensure the interchangeability of drive side liners for gland packing seal.

Now Including centrifugal expeller seal, High Seal design is a new standard for slurry pumps with gland packing seal and mechanical seal. All parts associated with the High Seal design have a part number HS1 after the basic part numbers.
